The Nature of Fate and Free Will

This essay discusses the theme of fate versus free will in the play Oedipus Rex. Even though fate has the power to set one’s destiny, it eventually comes down to free will. Due to Oedipus’ own decision to blind himself, he transforms from being figuratively to physically blind, eventually incapable of bringing light to darkness. This is the reality of hamartia, a fatal flaw, which is a pervasive theme across Greek tragedies.

這篇小說來自我六年級的一個單元創作評估。老師從《世說新語》和《搜神記》中選了十二個詞，讓我們改編一篇現代小說。我平時喜歡讀一些玄幻色彩的小說, 也讀過不少偵探及尋寶的故事。看著這些詞，我腦子裡漸漸浮現出一些人物並開始有了故事的輪廓。我合併了單元故事裡的不同元素，發揮想像力，添加了許多細節，創作了這個奇幻的偵探小說。 創作這故事的過程並不是一帆風順的。怎樣讓故事情節和人物性格顯得合理，以及如何給故事收尾等都讓我絞盡腦汁。不過，一旦我理順了所有的問題，終於寫完了這個故事時，心裡就感到十分滿足。我發現，只要構思清晰並有想像力，能夠讓讀者留下懸念和感悟，最後呈現出來的故事定是吸引人的。

A super fun story I wrote when I was 12, about a 12-year-old girl! Charlotte Teproski unexpectedly travels to a whole new world. It's a journey full of suspense and uneasiness, a journey that would catch the readers at the bottom of their heart. Confronting enemies and obstacles, will Charlotte eventually find her way back home? Will she activate the spirits in her mother's heart?
